The online scientific journal “Bulletin of the Institute of Sociology” was created in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences dated September 30, 2009 and registered by Roskomnadzor on April 29, 2010.

The main task of the journal is to aggregate and present the results of regional scientists' research to the broad scientific community. We believe that the involvement of our colleagues in the all-Russian and interregional scientific discussion helps to overcome the information isolation and to improve the quality of fundamental sociological science in our country, and allows us to find explanations for the phenomena of complex and diverse Russian reality. The first issue of the magazine was published in December 2010.

Due to a change in the name of the founder, it was re-registered by Roskomnadzor, EL No. FS77 - 73108 dated June 9, 2018.

The frequency of publication of the magazine is four issues per year (until 2014 – 2 issues per year).
